This medication is indicated in patients with all types of depressive illness, depression accompanied with anxiety, OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder), Panic disorders, social phobia, premenstrual dysphoric disorder (disorder involving sadness after menstruation) and Post-traumatic stress disorder (stress disorder after trauma).

The patient taking this medication may experience Gastrointestinal disturbances, decreased appetite, somnolence (sleepiness), sweating, tremor, dry mouth, blurred vision, weight gain, agitation, elevated cholesterol levels and impaired concentration.

This medication is contraindicated within 2 weeks of stopping MAOIs (Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors) or 1 day of stopping moclobemide or linezolid.

  • How long does Seroxat take to work?

You may feel that Seroxat is not working for you straight away. It can take a week or two starting the treatment before the effect begins to build up, and 4-6 weeks before you feel the full benefit. Do not stop taking it after a week or two, feeling it is not helping.

  • Does Seroxat make you happy?

Seroxat won’t change your personality or make you feel euphorically happy. It will simply help you feel like yourself again.

  • When should I take Seroxat and with or without food?

Seroxat is usually taken once daily in the morning or evening with or without food but it is preferred that it is taken with food to prevent stomach upset.

  • What does Seroxat do in the body?

Seroxat contains paroxetine which works by preventing the reuptake of one neurotransmitter, serotonin, by nerve cells after it has been released.

  • What medications interact with Seroxat?

The medications that interact with Seroxat are Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors, linezolid, moclobemide, other antipsychotics (medicines used to treat mental health illnesses), antiarrhythmics (medicines used in abnormal heart beat), medicines affecting liver enzymes, NSAIDs, and medicines that increase the risk of bleeding.

Take this medication in the morning with or without meals. Do not chew or crush, swallow whole. Take sufficient amount of fluids (2-3 litres per day) to maintain hydration.

Do not take aspirin and NSAIDs during therapy and avoid taking this medication within two hours of taking an antacid. Also avoid alcohol and caffeine during therapy.

This medication is not recommended for children and hence keep out of reach of children.
